Visit Afton Alps Ski Area
Afton Alps opened in 1963. It was started by a few family farmers that had a passion for skiing. Opening day drew 37 guests. It Offers ski, snowboard, and tubing trails. Located in Denmark Township, Washington County. It is situated on the along the St Croix River.
Afton Alps has nearly 300 acres that is skiable. The hill has a 350-foot vertical drop. They have a total of 50 trails with 17 chairlifts, two conveyor lifts and two rope tows. The 50 runs are 34 percent beginner, 56% intermediate and 20 percent advanced. Lift capacity is 20,000 an hour.
The manufacture snow throughout the winter (they have a state-of-the-art snowing making system) and of course we get about 50 inches in a season from mother nature.
Lessons are available and encouraged by a very capable staff of ski professionals.
They have six chalets, they are the Meadows Chalet, the Highlands Chalet, the Alpine Chalet, Landing Zone, and the main Alps Chalet.
In the summertime there is hiking and mountain bike trails to enjoy. Also, there is an eighteen-hole golf course.
The Chalet is available for parties and wedding receptions. It is beautiful in the summer for weddings since it is on the St Croix River.
On December 6th, 2012 Afton Alps was sold to Vail Resorts of Colorado. They did many improvements since then to all aspects of the resort.
This is a wonderful asset to the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area and one that is enjoyed by many. Bring
