Northfield Minnesota is in Dakota and Rice Counties in the State of Minnesota. Located just outside the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area that has 3.52 million residents.

Northfield was platted by John W North in 1856. Early on it was an agricultural center and supported lumber and flour mills on the Cannon River. It then moved to dairy and beef and now corn, soybeans, and hogs.

Northfield is a center of higher education with Carleton College and St. Olaf College.

Importantly, it is located within driving distance of 45 minutes to Minneapolis and St. Paul, has very highly rated public schools, outstanding higher education, a wonderful downtown on the river, has an abundance of recreation, affordable housing, and features a high quality of life. In short, I suggest considering Northfield if you are planning to move to the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.
